Ireland Visa Documents Checklist (2026)
This guide covers the exact specifications for every document required in an Ireland visa application — not just what to submit, but what each document must contain, what format it needs to be in, and what makes it acceptable or rejected by INIS. Incomplete or incorrectly formatted documents are the leading cause of Ireland visa delays and refusals.

How to Organise Your Document Bundle
- Use the INIS/VFS checklist order — follow it exactly
- Attach a cover sheet at the front with your name, AVATS reference number, and list of enclosed documents
- Use paper clips or binder clips — not staples (makes documents easier to review)
- Keep all documents for a single application together — do not mix documents from multiple applicants
- Keep photocopies of everything you submit — you may need them if documents are lost or if you are asked for clarification

Frequently Asked Questions
What documents are required for an Ireland tourist visa?
You need a valid passport, signed AVATS application form, two passport photos, 6-month bank statements, employment letter with leave approval, flight itinerary, accommodation proof, travel insurance, and visa fee payment.
Do I need to submit original documents for an Ireland visa?
Your original passport is always required. All other supporting documents — bank statements, employment letters, photos — are submitted as photocopies. Keep your originals safe. INIS may request originals later in specific cases.
Is travel insurance mandatory for an Ireland visa?
It is not formally listed as mandatory by INIS, but it is strongly expected and its absence can weaken your application. Minimum €30,000 medical emergency cover for the full duration of your stay is the recommended standard.
What should an Ireland visa invitation letter contain?
The host's full name and Irish address, your name and relationship to the host, dates of stay, confirmation of accommodation or financial support, and the host's signature. Attach proof of their Irish residency — IRP card, utility bill, or lease agreement.
Can I submit bank statements downloaded from my bank app?
Yes, if they are a complete PDF export generated by your bank's official portal. Screenshots or partial views are not accepted because they can be edited and are not considered official documents.
What if my documents are not in English?
All non-English documents must be accompanied by a certified English translation prepared by a qualified translator. Self-translations are not accepted.
How far in advance should I gather my documents?
Start at least 6–8 weeks before your intended application date. Bank statements need 6 months of history, employment letters take time to obtain, and VFS appointment slots can be 2–4 weeks out in peak season.
